Crowns and Bridges

Dr. Golab only fits a crown when a damaged or deteriorated one must be replaced. Otherwise, he avoids crowns because they require that the natural tooth be reduced significantly (ground down to a peg), often destroying healthy tooth structure in the process. He instead recommends inlays and onlays, restorations that only remove unhealthy material, preserving your natural, healthy tooth.

The crowns used by Dr. Golab are fabricated from porcelain. This material provides a natural appearance along with endurance and strength.

A bridge, also a custom-made restoration, replaces missing teeth. Crowns are placed on the teeth on each side of the missing tooth. Then a bridge, or false tooth, is held in place by these crowns. The bridge is metal free and made of porcelain. It looks so natural that no one will know you were missing a tooth. And, it is important to the health of your mouth to fill in the spaces of teeth that are missing. The bridge realigns your normal bite, protects your gums from disease, and keeps other teeth from shifting or becoming loose.

Whether you need a crown or a bridge to correct your dental problem, the procedure is generally the same. The tooth is prepared, and an impression of the tooth is made and sent to a lab. Once the lab has manufactured your custom restoration, you return to the office where Dr. Golab bonds the restoration onto your tooth. These are long-lasting options.

Implants are now the "standard of care" to replace missing teeth. Implants do not destroy the natural teeth on either side of the missing one, and they preserve the bone in the area of the missing tooth. However, they are a bit more costly and require a surgical procedure, but these are not major issues.
