Comprehensive Dental Care for the Entire Family at Jonathan J Golab, DDS, PA

At Jonathan J. Golab, DDS, PA, in Flower Mound, Texas, we pride ourselves on treating every family member. Family dentistry is focused on preventing possible dental issues rather than treating them. If you and your family require professional dental care services, we can help!

Dental Cleaning

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends a proper examination and thorough cleaning, at the very minimum, twice a year once you have a healthy, restored mouth. However, if you have been diagnosed in the past with periodontal disease, the ADA, in their position paper, states that you should be seen four times a year to “prevent” periodontal disease from returning. This is because the bacteria, in the form of tartar, builds to a critical level that destroys your jawbone.

Dental Exam

Regular dental exams not just protect your oral health but also your overall health. For example, symptoms of some systematic diseases like diabetes, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis manifest in the mouth first. Routine visits to our office can help detect any disease or disorder in its early stage and allow them to be treated quickly.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer examinations are done at each visit routinely. Oral cancer screening is an examination Dr. Jonathan Golab performs to look for precancerous conditions or signs of cancer in your mouth. The goal is to identify mouth cancer in its early stages so that there is a greater chance for successful treatment.

Periodontal Care

Your periodontal (gum and bone) tissues are more important than your teeth. The gums just cover your bone, so theoretically, the jawbone is the most important, as the jawbone is the foundation that holds your teeth in. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States, affecting 70-75% of the population. Periodontal disease results from an infection in the gum tissues that quickly progresses into your jawbone, eventually destroying the underlying bone. Next stop tooth loss.

Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal disease is characterized by swollen and red gums that bleed during brushing and flossing. Fortunately, periodontal disease is easy to treat if caught early enough. We may recommend a scaling and root planing procedure if we notice signs of advanced periodontal disease. The goal is to return your gums and bone to a healthy state.

Mouthguards

We recommend a mouthguard if you participate in sports activities that put you at risk for dental trauma or injury. A mouthguard will shield your teeth and avert dental emergencies; over 20,000 dental injuries are prevented every year by wearing a sports mouthguard.

Nightguards

If you often wake up with a sore jaw or a headache, you may want to visit our office to determine if you are suffering from bruxism (teeth grinding). We may recommend a nightguard. Many patients with bruxism unconsciously grind their teeth when sleeping. A nightguard acts as a barrier that prevents enamel wear. According to the ADA, bruxism or teeth clenching affects 10 to 15 percent of adult Americans.

TMJ

TMD affects your temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Many people suffer from migraines, headaches, sore muscles, and dizziness because of dysfunction in this joint. Usually, this is due to clenching, but more often than not, it is caused by misaligned teeth, so correcting that is the first line of defense. Then, an anti-bruxing appliance (also known as a “nightguard) will always help alleviate and stave off these symptoms.
