What Are the Uses of Veneers?
Veneers are good restorative options for teeth which have small defects like discolorations, wide gaps, and small misalignments. Veneers can also hide a chipped or misshapen tooth, and straighten your teeth. Patients also choose veneers to brighten their smiles.

Differences Between Dental Bonding and Porcelain Veneers
Unlike bonding material which is placed directly on to your teeth, veneers are fabricated in a dental laboratory or with the help of a CAD/CAM machine. They are custom-fitted to match the contours of your teeth and can bond to the surface of your enamel.
Porcelain veneers also cost more than bonding procedures but they are more durable as well, and with good care, can last for about 10 to 15 years – and sometimes, even more. They are also more natural-looking and more stain-resistant than composite bonding material. However, dental bondings are thinner so they require less natural tooth surface to be removed before application.

The Veneer Placement Procedure
A veneer placement can take two visits since the veneer may need to be constructed in a dental lab. At Jonathan J. Golab, DDS, PA, we use local anesthesia on patients if they have sensitive teeth; however, much of the time, anesthesia is not required because the procedure is painless.
We will first clean your teeth and determine the correct color for the veneer. Once that is determined, we will scrape off very small amounts of the enamel to roughen the tooth surface and provide room for the veneer to attach.
An impression of the prepared tooth will be made and sent to a dental laboratory. It typically takes 2 to 4 weeks for the veneer to be constructed. Once the laboratory delivers the veneer, your tooth is cleaned with some water and abrasive agents. With the help of an adhesive, the veneer is then fitted onto the surface of your tooth.
Once in place, a curing light is used to harden and bond the veneer to the tooth. We will then make some final adjustments, like trimming of excess material and polishing the veneer’s surface to give it a bright and natural shine.
