Long Term Neglect of Your Teeth Can Lead to Losing Them All

Long Term Neglect of Your Teeth Can Lead to Losing Them AllTaking good care of your teeth is very important. Good oral care helps prevent infections that could cause severe damage. In fact, long-term neglect of your teeth could cause you to lose them. This is because you can suffer serious dental infections that cause severe damage to your teeth. Some of the oral conditions caused by long-term neglect of your teeth include gum disease and decay.

Gum Disease

There are different levels of gum disease; it ranges from mild (gingivitis) to severe (periodontitis). Despite the fact that other factors can cause gum disease, poor oral hygiene is the most common. When there is the presence of tartar and bacteria on your gums, you are more likely to develop gum disease.
Therefore, taking good care of your teeth by brushing and flossing will help minimize the damage of gum disease. Failure to do so, plaque will harden over time and build up, leading to tartar. Tartar is so hard that it can only be removed by scraping. Once it is formed on your teeth, brushing will have little effect on it. Flossing is also important because it helps eliminate the bacteria building up between your gum line and teeth. Therefore, to prevent the risk of gum disease and other gum infections, you should start being proactive about your oral health.

If you continue to neglect your oral health, you could also suffer from tooth decay. Even though some people are more vulnerable to tooth decay than others, the chances of getting it are high if you don't take good care of your teeth. To prevent tooth decay, you need to floss and brush on a regular basis. Inconsistent brushing and flossing will lead to plaque buildup that causes cavities. You could also experience severe tooth sensitivity. Contact our offices for more information on the dangers of neglecting your oral health.
