We have always espoused a metal free mouth, and never liked mercury fillings. Mercury is classified by the FDA as a Class 2 poison. Removing mercury fillings not only looks better, but strengthens teeth, and is healthier.
One of the most common complaints we receive involves the brightness of our patients’ smiles. For this reason, we offer professional take home teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is one of the most basic and cost-effective ways to improve your smile.
As we get older, our teeth pick up stains from certain foods, drinks, medications, and personal habits. These stains, also known as extrinsic stains, are easy to remove with a bleaching solution. However, many store-bought bleaching products leave people dissatisfied with the results. Because we are trained professionals, we use a bleaching agent with a much higher concentration than store-bought alternatives. Our whitening treatment could make your teeth up to eight shades brighter in just a single appointment!
And now it’s incredibly easy. NO MORE DENTAL IMPRESSIONS :) Just grab a box of whitening gel, and they already contain pre-formed, one use, whitening trays. An awesome technological advance!
We try very hard NOT to do crowns, as they grind your tooth down into a peg. However, if we have to replace a “defective” crown, it will always be a very conservative, well done, metal free crown. But as always, our effort goes into NOT doing crowns, but rather inlays and onlays.
Porcelain veneers are very conservative thin shells that replace defective, discolored, or broken front teeth. Almost like a fake fingernail, they are created to be the perfect color and shape that you select for your teeth. They then can be chemically adhered/bonded to your teeth.
We make it a point in my practice to not recommend veneers to anyone for looks or cosmetics. We only recommend veneers for structural and/or health purposes. That is, if teeth are so crowded that keeping them clean is difficult, then straightening our teeth then allows you to clean your teeth, and prevent decay and periodontal disease from occurring.
One of the many great benefits of porcelain veneers is that they can be used to fix teeth that are severely discolored, worn down, chipped or broken, misaligned, uneven, irregularly shaped, or even gapped.
Patients looking for a less-invasive and more cost-effective solution may benefit from dental bonding. Dental bonding involves the application of composite resin, a putty-like material, to the surface of an aesthetically displeasing tooth. For example, dental bonding is an excellent solution for minor chips or cracks. During the procedure, the composite resin will be color-matched to the existing shade of your enamel, making it virtually indistinguishable from the rest of your tooth.
