When it comes to taking care of their bodies, everyone is vigilant. It is important to get regular checkups to make sure that there are no problems. In dental health, however, such care is rarely seen; it is often overlooked. Red spots on the gums, swelling, and jaw pain could be signs of a serious health issue. Get your mouth checked right away if you notice any unusual symptoms. Good dental care will lead to better overall health.
Gum spots are fairly visible and can be caught early, more likely as soon as they appear. Early treatment increases success rates. A red spot on your gums or inside your mouth can be caused by strep throat or scarlet fever. Furthermore, babies’ gums may swell up during teething, which makes them appear red. Strep throat is an infection caused by streptococcus bacteria that is characterized by fever and rash. This causes rashes and red skin all over the body, including the mouth. The condition erythroplakia is marked by the accumulation of abnormal cells inside the oral cavity. These red spots or lesions usually appear on the mouth bed or gums at the back of the mouth. Smoking cigarettes/cigars or chewing tobacco directly is the cause. Erythroplakia is a premalignant condition, which means it can develop into cancer if not dealt with in time. Sometimes long-term use of badly fitting dentures can also lead to red gums. Gingivitis is a very common mouth problem. Gingivitis is an early stage of gum disease that causes red, swollen, and tender gums. These gums can bleed easily. Poor oral hygiene contributes to this condition. This disease is caused by bacterial accumulation due to poor cleaning.
Oral antibiotics are effective in treating scarlet fever. Penicillin and amoxicillin are the most common. Those allergic to penicillin are prescribed alternative drugs. Something as simple as an infection or as dangerous as cancer could cause a red spot on the gum. Prevent it with regular dental checkups. Erythroplakia can be detected with routine dental checkups and self-examination. Gingivitis is treated with scaling, which removes tartar and plaque from teeth and prevents bacteria from sticking again. In this way, gums are relieved of the excess load causing red spots. Mouthwash, brushing, and flossing can greatly help in the long run.
