By brushing, flossing, and seeing us twice a year, your overall oral health will be quite good. There are many reasons why you want this. Having good oral health brings with it many benefits. If you fall out of some of your good oral hygiene habits, you run the risk of losing some of the following benefits.
By keeping your teeth and mouth healthy, you will prevent damage to your teeth. If you don’t brush regularly, you’re very likely to get cavities. This can slowly leave you with damaged teeth that are noticeable by others. Your smile will begin to degrade, especially if you don’t come in for cleanings and to have fillings put in. You could also even end up losing teeth. This is especially true if you develop gingivitis and don’t come in to get it treated. It will eventually move into advanced periodontal disease. Your gums will recede, and your teeth may become loose. You will lose your bright, pearly white smile unless you take action. When it comes to your mouth, good oral health, or the lack thereof, is very noticeable.
Another benefit to good oral health is the lack of pain. If you don’t take action to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and other conditions, you may start to notice that it hurts if you bite down on food when it’s in a specific part of your mouth. Very hot or very cold drinks and food may also start to cause some pain. Your gums may start to bleed, and even though they may not hurt, that’s never a good sign. Pain is the body’s way of telling us that something is wrong, so if you feel any type of pain in your mouth, it’s a sign that your oral health is failing. Give us a call as soon as you can to make an appointment so we can begin restoring your oral health.
